Data Sharing Policy

Promoting Transparency, Reproducibility & Responsible Research Practices

JISDCES encourages authors to share research data openly to enhance reproducibility, enable collaboration, and advance interdisciplinary knowledge. We support FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and expect authors to provide clear data availability statements for all submitted works across our six core sections.

At the Journal of Interdisciplinary Social, Digital, Creative & Engineering Studies (JISDCES), we are committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration through responsible data sharing practices. As a Gold Open Access journal, we encourage authors to make their underlying data openly available, discoverable, and properly cited, ensuring that it serves as a valuable intellectual asset for the global research community.

What Constitutes Research Data?

Research data refers to any material that supports the results and conclusions of a scholarly work. This may include (but is not limited to):

  • Numerical datasets and spreadsheets
  • Visuals such as images, figures, maps, and videos
  • Audio recordings, interviews, and transcripts
  • Statistical analysis files, code, software, or scripts
  • Models, simulations, survey responses, and logs
  • Quantitative and qualitative records in any format

JISDCES Data Sharing Expectations

To uphold the integrity and utility of interdisciplinary research, authors are required to include a Data Availability Statement in all submissions, describing the nature and location of the data that supports their work.

Depending on the type and sensitivity of the data, authors may follow one of the following models:

1. Encouraged Data Sharing (Preferred Practice)

Authors are strongly encouraged to deposit relevant datasets in reputable repositories (e.g., Zenodo, Figshare, Dataverse, OSF, institutional archives) and include the persistent link or DOI in the manuscript. All shared data should be:

  • Properly labeled and documented
  • Formatted using open or widely accepted standards
  • Cited formally in the reference list

2. Mandatory Data Sharing (For Empirical Studies)

For empirical, computational, and experimental works, JISDCES requires data supporting the findings to be publicly accessible at the time of publication. Manuscripts without valid data access links may be rejected or delayed.

Exceptions apply only in cases where:

  • Ethical constraints prohibit data sharing (e.g., sensitive human data)
  • Legal or contractual obligations limit access
  • Confidential third-party data is involved

In such cases, authors must clearly explain the restrictions in the Data Availability Statement.

Peer Review of Data

Where applicable, reviewers may be given access to datasets as part of the peer review process to assess:

  • Completeness and clarity of the dataset
  • Proper documentation and metadata
  • Alignment between data and reported findings
  • Reusability by others in the field

All datasets should be anonymized and comply with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).

Benefits of Data Sharing

  • Promotes credibility, reproducibility, and transparency
  • Enables collaboration and new discoveries
  • Increases visibility and citation of research
  • Meets funding agency and institutional mandates
  • Aligns with FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)
