Dr. Sheldon Wang

JISDCES Editor

Summary

Dr. Sheldon Wang is a Tenured Full Professor of Engineering at Midwestern State University and an elected Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics and M.S. in Ocean Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his B.S. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Dr. Wang’s research spans computational fluid dynamics (CFD), fluid–structure interaction (FSI), finite element methods, immersed boundary/finite element methods, multiphysics modeling, nonlinear and non-Newtonian fluid dynamics, and complex systems simulation. His recent work includes computational modeling of flexible tubes with complex fluids, pump system parameter identification, energy systems, and multiscale modeling of biological materials.

He is the author of several books and book chapters, including Fundamentals of Fluid-Solid Interactions (Elsevier) and Essential Mathematical Tools for Engineers. His scholarly contributions include numerous journal publications in leading venues such as Journal of Computational Physics, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering, Fluids, Applied Mechanics, Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, and SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing.

Dr. Wang has secured external funding from NSF, NASA, NIH, Navy, General Motors, and industry partners. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Thermal and Fluids Systems and has extensive experience in advanced engineering mathematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and computational simulation.
